Mahale Mountains National Park is situated in Western Tanzania along the eastern shoreline of Lake Tanganyika, south of Kigoma. The park is one of the country’s most remote protected areas and is accessible only by boat or light aircraft.
The dramatic Mahale Mountains rise directly from the lake, creating one of the most spectacular landscapes in East Africa.
Scheduled and charter flights operate from Arusha, Dar es Salaam, and other safari destinations to Mahale airstrips.
Visitors can also reach the park via Lake Tanganyika from Kigoma, offering a scenic journey across one of Africa’s most beautiful lakes.
Mahale is internationally famous for chimpanzees, but the park supports a rich variety of wildlife, birds, and forest species.
